just don’t force it (you'll be AMAZED)

They say good things come to those who wait.

We didn’t even wait a month after losing our sweet pup, Bodhi, before the universe brought us Papi Chulo a.k.a. Boomer.

Meet the new love of my life.

We weren’t actively looking for a dog, but we weren’t not looking either. We just said we’d see what appeared.

Then a family in the neighborhood needed to rehome their 8-month-old French Bulldog. Never in my life did I think I’d adopt a dog like this. I always pictured another Chihuahua, or maybe a Cockapoo like my first pup.

But this guy was already potty trained, crate trained, loving, playful, and so stinking cute.

Plus, they weren’t asking for money — just a good home.

They’d gotten him from a breeder earlier this year, but some unexpected health issues came up and they couldn’t care for him the way they wanted to. They were heartbroken, and praying the right person would appear.

And there we were.

We met him. We loved him. And since I was about to be home all week recovering from a minor surgery, it felt like the right moment to let him settle in.

… and believe me, Reader, I did NOT see this coming.

I didn’t plan to adopt a dog this month. But I also didn’t try to force the timing, the breed, or the how.

We just stayed open. And he found us.

The best things in life often come when we stop hustling, forcing, and pushing so hard… and instead create space for what we truly want to show up.

I’d love to know: What’s something in your life that surprised you by showing up at just the right time?

It’s amazing how often the things we’re longing for arrive once we stop pushing so hard and create space for them. That’s the kind of magic I want for you, too.

Nyssa

A client of mine referred to their new dog as a “dopamine dispenser,” and I couldn’t agree more. 😍 It’s like, “Move over phone, Instagram, all the apps and devices that vie for my attention. I’ve got something REAL here.” This reminded me of a visit to my cousin after she got a new kitten. We were on the floor playing with it when, inevitably, a phone came out to show a funny cat video. Apparently, at some point I broke from my haze and said, “Wait, why are we watching videos of cats when we...

There have been two reigning topics that have appeared in my treatment room the past few weeks. No matter the client, I felt like I kept having the same conversations. I'd usually get asked one and then both of these questions (though not always in the same order): How were your holidays? Can you believe what is happening in this country? (a.k.a. How are we supposed to be with all this??) I see what I do as my small part of holding space for all of this, holding space for you. While at the...

Back in the early 90s, the most rented video on my family's Blockbuster account was The Making of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. I was obsessed. There was something magical about watching Rick Baker transform Michael Jackson into a werewolf and the entire dance crew into zombies. If you asked me then what I wanted to do when I grew up, I’d reply, “I want to be a horror make-up artist.” 10-year-old me rolled up to the local costume store asking about fake blood and latex scars. I remember the...
