I'm used to unplugging for an hour or more at a time. When I'm doing massage or coaching, I don't look at my phone. But outside of sessions, I'm just like everyone else. If I don't watch it, I'll waste all kinds of time on things that don’t matter. And with the news, I can start flirting with a panic attack. I don't want to live there. I'm all for being informed and taking action, but I'm also aware that unplugging from my device grounds me and increases my joy for my life. There's a power in noticing what's happening right now, around you. Right now, I have a snoring chihuahua tucked in a blanket beside me. I can see the mid-morning sun illuminating the plants in our front yard. The potatoes I'm roasting are dispersing an aroma of garlic and ginger. I'm writing you an email to help bring a little peace and calm into your life. Life is pretty okay, despite it all. How about you, Reader? What's something sweet or beautiful or kind that you can find around you? Take it in. Don't let your device rule your life. You’re in charge. I'm working on a project right now to help you create a healthier relationship with devices and would love your help. Would you take 2 minutes and answer these questions? Click here. And please write back and let me know how you're doing. In Joy, Nyssa

Most of my dad’s siblings were visiting for the fourth of July. Twenty-four-year-old me thought it would be hilarious to do a full improv monologue from the perspective of a chin who had declared independence from...
They say a lotus grows from mud. I’ve seen vines grow from concrete. Yesterday, I spotted one pushing up through the crack between my house and our not-even-two-year-old porch slab. Nature is amazing. So are you, Reader. Some of the biggest lessons come from what feels dry, brittle, and stuck—yet somehow, new life breaks through. This time of year, I like to reflect on the past six months and dig up the gems hiding in the rough. Here’s what I’ve learned: I need routine—but one that breathes....
A friend asked me yesterday, "How are you treating yourself right now?" I'm embarrassed to say that I really had to think about it. The first few things that came to mind were all work-related. Don't get me wrong, I love my job. But I don't think those count as treats. Then I remembered that I had a fascial booked today. While booking my next appointment with the esthetician, I took advantage of the bowl of chocolates set out. This morning, I gave myself an extra 5 minutes to slow down and...
