you too?

Hey Reader,

I don't know about you, but it's been a bit of a downer lately.

Back-to-back hurricanes. Election.

A collection of all the other personal struggles that exist simultaneously within what's happening collectively.

We're all connected. There's no doubt.

As I listen to each clients' stories about these recent events, they're always framed within a specific flavor of other struggles: deaths, illnesses, school, relationships ending and beginning, questions of "What am I going to do with my life?" "Why did I choose that?" "What's next?"

For me, the Moon is a forever teacher of the cycles of waking and sleeping, knowing and not knowing. The upswing and the downswing keep on swinging.

But each time, something's different. Something's changed.

Tomorrow, Friday, marks the last quarter of the Moon’s cycle. It will start getting darker each night. But then on December 1 it will be new again.

We can once again plant intentions to grow with another lunation.

With this final quarter, here the questions I’m asking myself:

  • What has become clear to me that it’s time to let go?
  • What’s ready to be excavated, either to me momentarily put aside or released forever?
  • How can I bring something I began to final completion?

Answering these questions now can help you plant seeds with the New Moon next week.

I hope pondering on this play of light and dark can bring you insight.

If you're feeling like me right now, it's much needed.

In Joy,

Nyssa

Every summer, one of my relatives inevitably says: “Happy Chindependence Day.” It goes back to 2008. The early days of YouTube, when my roommate and I discovered chin face—that absurd thing where you draw a face on your chin, cover your eyes with a towel, and record it upside-down. Most of my dad’s siblings were visiting for the fourth of July. Twenty-four-year-old me thought it would be hilarious to do a full improv monologue from the perspective of a chin who had declared independence from...

They say a lotus grows from mud. I’ve seen vines grow from concrete. Yesterday, I spotted one pushing up through the crack between my house and our not-even-two-year-old porch slab. Nature is amazing. So are you, Reader. Some of the biggest lessons come from what feels dry, brittle, and stuck—yet somehow, new life breaks through. This time of year, I like to reflect on the past six months and dig up the gems hiding in the rough. Here’s what I’ve learned: I need routine—but one that breathes....

A friend asked me yesterday, "How are you treating yourself right now?" I'm embarrassed to say that I really had to think about it. The first few things that came to mind were all work-related. Don't get me wrong, I love my job. But I don't think those count as treats. Then I remembered that I had a fascial booked today. While booking my next appointment with the esthetician, I took advantage of the bowl of chocolates set out. This morning, I gave myself an extra 5 minutes to slow down and...
